One of the greatest blessings of being born again is that we have been delivered from the power of darkness and placed into the kingdom of God’s light. This is not just a shift in our circumstances—it’s a radical change in our spiritual position. As believers, we are no longer bound by the forces of darkness; we now live in the light of God’s presence and dominion. But what does it mean to live as citizens of the kingdom of light?

Today’s Scripture

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” – Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)

Delivered from the Power of Darkness

Before accepting Christ, we lived under the influence of the kingdom of darkness. This realm, characterized by sin, deception, and spiritual blindness, held us captive, preventing us from experiencing the fullness of life that God intended. But the moment we are born again, something miraculous happens—we are rescued from the grasp of this darkness.

Colossians 1:13 declares that God has delivered us, removing us from the dominion of sin, fear, and death. No longer do we live under the weight of guilt or the chains of sin. The enemy no longer has authority over us because we have been freed by the power of Christ.

A Transfer to the Kingdom of Light

The scripture goes on to say that we have been “conveyed” or “translated” into the kingdom of God’s Son. This is a total transfer of spiritual citizenship. Our allegiance has shifted from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, where Christ reigns supreme. In this new kingdom, we experience peace, joy, and righteousness—gifts that can only come from living in the light of God’s love.

Ephesians 5:8 reminds us, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” We are no longer identified by our past, nor are we bound by the constraints of darkness. In Christ, we are now children of light, called to reflect the goodness and grace of God wherever we go.

Walking as Citizens of Light

Being translated into the kingdom of light comes with both privileges and responsibilities. As children of light, we are expected to live in a way that reflects our new spiritual position. This involves embracing our identity in Christ, walking in holiness, and allowing the light of Christ to shine through us to others.

1. Embrace Your New Identity

When we realize we are no longer bound by darkness, we must begin to embrace our new identity. 1 Peter 2:9 affirms this, saying, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” God has called us to be set apart, and this new identity means we are valued, loved, and chosen by Him.

2. Live in Holiness

As citizens of God’s kingdom, we are called to walk in holiness, forsaking the ways of our old life. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 reminds us that “God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.” This involves a conscious decision to reject sin and embrace the righteousness of God. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live out this calling daily, helping us resist temptation and choose the path of light.

3. Shine Your Light to Others

Our new life in the kingdom of light is not meant to be hidden. Matthew 5:16 urges us to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” As we live out our faith, the light of Christ should shine brightly through our actions, words, and attitudes. We are called to be beacons of hope and truth in a world that desperately needs the light of God’s love.

Living in the Kingdom of Light

Living in the kingdom of light is a daily journey of choosing God’s ways over the world’s ways. It means relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength, allowing Him to shape our character to reflect Christ more fully. Philippians 2:15 encourages us to “become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”

As we live in this kingdom, we experience the blessings of God’s presence, peace, and power. We no longer fear the darkness because we are surrounded by the light of Christ, who leads us and protects us.

Conclusion

In Christ, we have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of light. This new position gives us the authority and freedom to live as children of God, reflecting His love and grace to the world around us. Embrace your new identity, walk in holiness, and shine your light brightly for others to see.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for delivering me from the power of darkness and bringing me into the kingdom of Your light.
