Today’s Scripture

“For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.'” – Zechariah 2:8 (NKJV)

Introduction: You Are Precious in His Sight

The world constantly pushes us to seek approval—whether from people, achievements, or social validation. But in the midst of this exhausting chase, Zechariah 2:8 offers a truth that is both comforting and empowering: You are the apple of God’s eye. This means that in His divine gaze, you are cherished, protected, and held close. Your worth is not defined by external validation but by the immeasurable love of the One who created you.

Understanding Your Worth in God’s Eyes

1. The Apple of His Eye: A Divine Declaration

The phrase “apple of His eye” refers to the most delicate and protected part of the eye—the pupil. It signifies deep affection and value. God does not merely tolerate you; He treasures you.

  • God’s Protection: Just as we instinctively guard our eyes from harm, God shields and watches over us with unwavering care.
  • God’s Favor: Being the apple of His eye means that His favor surrounds you, even when the world overlooks you.

2. Chasing Human Approval Will Always Leave You Empty

The pursuit of approval is exhausting because it’s a moving target. The applause of today fades tomorrow. The pressure to meet expectations never truly ends. But Scripture reminds us that we are not defined by what others say—we are defined by what God has already spoken over us.

  • Galatians 1:10 asks, “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”
  • True peace comes when we stop chasing validation from people and rest in the certainty that we are already approved by God.

3. Biblical Examples of Those Who Found Their Worth in God

Many in Scripture faced the struggle of seeking human approval, but their breakthrough came when they realized God’s love was enough.

  • David: Before he was a king, he was overlooked—even by his own family. But God saw his heart and chose him (1 Samuel 16:7).
  • Jesus Himself: He was rejected by many, yet He never compromised His identity to win their approval. His purpose was rooted in the Father’s will, not in the opinions of the crowd.

Living in the Freedom of God’s Approval

1. Know Your Identity in Christ

Your worth is not in what you do but in who you are in Him. Meditate on verses that reaffirm His love:

  • Isaiah 43:4“Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you.”
  • Romans 8:38-39 – Nothing can separate you from His love.

2. Release the Need for External Validation

People’s opinions change, but God’s love is constant. Anchor yourself in the truth that His approval is the only one that matters.

3. Walk in Confidence

When you embrace your worth in Christ, you stop striving for acceptance and start living with boldness. You don’t need to prove your value—He already established it on the cross.

Conclusion

Zechariah 2:8 is a divine reminder that you are deeply valued by God. You are the apple of His eye—not because of what you achieve, but simply because you are His. Let go of the chase for human approval and step into the freedom of being fully known and fully loved by Him.
